Another masterpiece from the masters of grind has been added to my collection. Nasum, making THE best grindcore I have ever heard, combining real heavy and hard grindcore with the groove elements of hardcore. And now, with a second guitarist, what will Shift have to offer for us?
The first thing you’ll say after listening to the entire album is, fucking great, but not as great as the previous album Helvete. The album blast your head of once again with sort fat songs, but also shows more of Nasum’s melodic side, due to the second guitarist Urban Skytt who has made this possible. There are certainly great groove riffs again, like in "Wrath" and "Circle Of Defeat", but it just doesn’t reach the level of the previous album. I mean, "Scoop" is one of the greatest tracks ever written, but it isn’t equalled on this record unfortunately.
The lyrics have, as always, a high political message, showing an anti-capitalistic look on society. This opinion is also shown in the vocal samples used in the tracks. With this band you can really see that grindcore has flown forth from hardcore, due to the positive message and the groove riffs. That’s why I think this is the best grindcore band in the entire world, they have found the ultimate balance between grindcore and hardcore. It’s easy to see that this is still the greatest grind band on the planet. Nasum, in my opinion, is the best definition of grindcore. I’m looking forward to interviewing and seeing them play!
